Closing the Plastic Circular Loop in Iceland

Closing the Plastic Circular Loop in Iceland

11. mars 2025
Pure North has recently started production of the first plastic container made from Icelandic recycled plastic – Marking a milestone in the cycle of plastic use in Iceland

Pure North has set a new tone in sustainable plastic production in Iceland by producing this first plastic container made from recycled plastic that is produced in this country. This marks a major step towards a circular economy where plastic waste is reused locally and given a new life instead of ending up as waste.

With this innovation, we contribute to reducing plastic pollution, reducing the need for imported plastic and using resources in a much more responsible way.

We are extremely proud of this milestone. This shows that it is possible to close the plastic cycle domestically and create real added value from material that was previously considered waste, and in addition, we have produced the most environmentally friendly plastic can in the world with the circular processes we work in.

This has been a long process, as we have been developing a method for making three-layer cans with an Italian high-tech company for years and developing special equipment for the production of the cans.

This is the first step in the final product production at Pure North and we cannot wait to see what the future will bring.
