OPERATIONS :
At Pure North, we believe the future is circular. Every day, we work to transform waste into value – in a sustainable, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly way. We are thrilled to announce that after analysing our product we have started an inhouse carbon footprint calculation, more transparency towards our customer.
We use Icelandic geothermal energy and clean water to recycle plastic generated in Iceland, without using fossil fuels or harmful chemicals. Through this method, we have developed a unique process that sets us apart – life cycle analysis and EPD certification show that the carbon footprint of our recycling is 82% lower than comparable European processes. At the end of 2024, we began producing end products from our recycled plastic, reintroducing it into the market. The first step is 5-liter bottles, with more packaging to be launched in 2025.
We also use our own software, Úlli, to analyze waste, both in terms of volume and cost, and support companies in achieving their waste management goals. With this, we help our partners become more aware and responsible in their operations. We also measure this in our own operations and ensure that all waste generated by us follows the best route.
We emphasize:
- Minimizing carbon footprints through energy-saving technology and natural energy sources.
- A circular economy where raw materials are given new life.
- Innovation and digital solutions to maximize environmental performance.
- Education and inspiration for employees so everyone participates in sustainability, both at work and at home.
- Transparency and accountability to nature, employees, customers, and society.
We don’t see waste – we see opportunities. With strong collaboration, clear goals, and endless curiosity, we continue to shape a sustainable future.
Life Cycle Assessment of Pure North’s Recycling Process
Plastic pollution is a serious man-made environmental problem that is growing rapidly. Plastic pollution is starting to impact ecosystems in general, and particularly marine ecosystems. Icelanders have a lot at stake in fisheries and tourism with unspoiled nature, and now this development threatens our livelihood and well-being.

SUSTAINABLE STRATEGY
Pure North has a sustainability-driven business model, however, this does not mean that our activities don’t have an impact we need to address. As a growing start up, we recognize the importance of building a strong foundation and understanding where we currently stand in order to achieve sustainable growth. That is why we have decided that 2025 will be a milestone-year, we are mapping our environmental impact !
- After calculating the carbon footprint of our product, we will then calculate the carbon footprint of our company in 2024. The results will help us establish a roadmap that prioritizes our efforts in the most impactful emissions categories. We are committed to sharing our results with our customers and partners to increase transparency and contribute to the overall effort of carbon footprint mapping.
- Even though we use renewable energy in our factory’s processes, every energy source still has an impact. That is why we are mapping our energy consumption to identify areas where we can make the most impactful changes in order to reduce our consumption.
OUR TEAM
At Pure North, we are a team focused on reducing the impact of waste and advancing the circular economy. We truly believe that shifting our perspective on waste—viewing it not as something to discard, but as a valuable resource—is a crucial step toward a circular economy. To align with this vision, we have introduced a sustainability agreement to open a dialogue about the company’s goals and ensure a shared vision.
